How this decking estimate is calculated
This calculator produces an estimate, not a binding quote. It applies Australian decking rates to your area, adjusts for timber species and height, then adds extras.

Calculate deck area
Length × width gives the total deck area in square metres. This drives the base material and labour cost.
area = length × width

Apply timber rate
Each timber species has a different installed per-m² rate. Treated pine is the base; hardwoods and composite scale up from there.
base_deck = area × rate × timber_multiplier

Adjust for height
Ground-level decks use the base rate. Mid-height adds ~25% for extra substructure, and elevated decks add ~55% for deeper footings, posts and bracing.
height_premium = base_deck × (height_factor − 1)

Add extras and GST
Balustrade is priced per linear metre, stairs per step, and a roof/pergola as a flat allowance. A minimum job fee applies, then 10% GST.
