How this retaining wall cost calculator is calculated
This calculator produces an estimate based on real Australian per-m² rates by material, adjusted for height, excavation, drainage, engineering and access conditions. It is not a binding quote.
GST handling: All estimates include GST at 10%. Australian businesses registered for GST must charge GST on retaining wall construction services.

Calculate wall face area
Wall length (lineal metres) multiplied by the mid-point of the selected height band gives the total face area in square metres.
wall_face_area = wall_length × wall_height

Apply material rate
The face area is multiplied by the per-m² rate for the chosen material — from $275/m² for treated pine up to $600/m² for besser block.
A per-lineal-metre excavation rate is adjusted by the site slope factor. Moderate cut adds 50% and heavy cut-and-fill adds 150% to the base excavation rate.
Drainage (ag pipe and aggregate) is costed per lineal metre when included. Engineering certification and council approval are added as a fixed fee for walls that require it — generally over 1 m.

Apply access multiplier and GST
Tight access adds 20% and manual-only access adds 40% to the base cost. A minimum job fee of $2,500 applies. GST at 10% is added to produce the final estimate.
