Common questions

What others asks before signing up?

How much does home and contents insurance cost in Australia?
Home and contents insurance in Australia typically costs $1,500 to $4,500 per year depending on the property value, location risk, and claims history. This calculator provides an estimate based on your coverage amount and risk profile — your insurance broker will confirm the final premium after reviewing your circumstances.
How accurate is this insurance premium calculator?
This calculator provides an indicative premium based on industry-standard rates and risk factors. Actual premiums vary by insurer, policy features, excess levels, and individual underwriting. Your broker will confirm the exact premium during your initial consultation.
Does the estimate include stamp duty?
Yes. The calculator applies an approximate stamp duty rate which varies by state. NSW charges around 9% on general insurance premiums, while other states vary. Your broker will confirm the exact statutory charges applicable to your policy.
Can I add this calculator to my WordPress, Webflow or Squarespace site?
Yes. Leadkit provides a single embed code snippet that works on WordPress, Webflow, Squarespace, Wix and Shopify. Paste it into any page and the calculator renders in your brand colours with your rates.
What do I get when an enquirer submits a premium estimate?
You receive an instant email notification with the enquirer's name, email, phone, location, message, and full premium breakdown. Every lead is saved to your Leadkit dashboard with a lead score to help you prioritise consultations.
Do I need a website to use this calculator?
No. Leadkit auto-generates a hosted quote page at your own URL that you can share on social media, Google Business Profile, or in direct messages. No website required.
Is Leadkit really free?
Yes. Free lets you add up to 3 calculators to your website and receive 10 leads per month — no credit card. Every lead beyond the cap is still captured and held for you; upgrading to Pro ($29/mo) opens them all retroactively and removes the cap.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You get an embed code (one line of HTML). Paste it into your website builder — Wix, Squarespace, WordPress, or any custom site. That's it.
How accurate are the price estimates?
You configure the calculator formulas to match your actual pricing. Leadkit provides the framework; you set the numbers. Estimates can be as detailed or as rough as you like.
What happens with lead data?
All lead data is stored securely in your workspace. You own it. We never sell or share your leads with anyone.
Can I use Leadkit as an agency for multiple clients?
Yes — our Agency plan lets you create and manage separate workspaces for each of your clients, all from one dashboard.
What's the difference between the plans?
Free: up to 3 calculators, 10 leads/month (over-cap leads held + locked until upgrade). Pro: unlimited leads, unlimited calculators, white-label, branded email sending, analytics, email templates. Agency: everything in Pro plus multi-workspace management.

How it works

How this insurance premium calculator is calculated

This calculator produces an indicative premium based on industry-standard rate-per-thousand factors, adjusted for location risk, claims history, and — for life and income protection — age and occupation. It is a guide only; your broker will confirm the final premium after reviewing your circumstances.

GST handling: Most personal insurance lines (home, car, life, income protection) include GST in the insurer's base rate. Business lines may attract separate GST. This calculator shows the premium indication without separate GST itemisation — your broker will confirm the GST treatment for your specific policy.

  1. Base premium calculation

The estimate starts with a rate per $1,000 of coverage, multiplied by the sum insured. Each insurance type uses a different rate reflecting the underlying risk pool and claims frequency.

    coverage_amount × rate_per_1000 / 1000
  2. Age and occupation loading

For income protection and life insurance, an age loading applies for applicants over 30. Income protection also factors in occupation risk tier — office-based roles attract lower premiums than manual trades.

  3. Location risk adjustment

A location risk factor adjusts the premium for flood-prone, bushfire-prone or cyclone-zone areas. Low-risk metro areas may attract a small discount.

  4. Claims history adjustment

A clean claims record over 5 years attracts a discount. One or more claims in the past 5 years increase the premium to reflect higher actuarial risk.

  5. Stamp duty

An approximate stamp duty rate is applied to the annual premium. The rate varies by state — NSW charges around 9% on general insurance, while other states differ. Your broker will confirm the exact statutory charges.

Australian averages

Typical insurance premiums across Australia 2026

Insurance premiums vary significantly by coverage type, sum insured, location, claims history and individual risk profile. Metro areas in NSW and QLD tend to attract higher premiums due to stamp duty and natural disaster exposure.

NSW premiums tend to be 10–15% higher due to Emergency Services Levy and stamp duty. North QLD and WA coastal areas attract significant cyclone loadings.
